Brace Yourself For A Better Smile
When you look in the mirror at your smile, what would you like to see? Teeth that are perfectly straight — no crowding, no crooked teeth, no overbites or underbites?
Now … is that what you see when you look at your teeth?
If not, Hillstream Dental (formerly Hubbard & Leath Dental) can help you change that. In fact, we have three great options for patients who are interested in having straight teeth and beautiful smiles:
- Traditional metal braces
- Ceramic braces
- ClearCorrect aligners (sometimes called “clear braces”)
We’ll tell you more about each of these options later in this post, but we also want you to understand the benefits that come with a straight smile.
Before we can help you or someone in your family, however, you have to take the first step. You have to contact us to schedule a consultation at one of our offices in Rochester Hills or St. Clair Shores, MI.
Build Your Confidence
Many people are interested in having “perfect” smiles because of how our teeth affect our self-confidence.
We could tell you story after story about countless patients who came to us as adults because they were embarrassed by what they considered their crooked teeth. Regardless of what their teeth looked like, the effect it was having on them mentally and emotionally was enormous.
Their teeth had become an obstacle to living the lives they wanted to live. They didn’t apply for jobs they wanted because they worried they would be judged because of the condition of their teeth.
Many of these patients also felt hesitant to pursue romantic interests out of worry that they would be rejected because of the smile — or maybe because they rarely smiled since they didn’t want anyone to see their teeth.
Several parents bring their daughters and sons to our office in hopes of helping them avoid those same concerns as they get older.
We are happy to say that we work with teens and adults of all ages, and our doctors have helped so many patients feel better about their teeth. In dentistry, few things compare to watching someone’s face when they see their straight smile for the first time.
To Your Health
It truly is amazing to watch someone’s self-esteem improve as they feel more comfortable letting other people see their teeth. They smile more office, which makes them seem friendlier, and they are more willing to speak, which lets other people see their personality, too.
But that’s not the only reason we offer braces for our patients at Hillstream Dental. That may not even be the most important reason to straighten your teeth.
We are always concerned about our patients’ oral health — which, in turn, affects their overall health. And having straight teeth does make it more likely that you will have a healthy mouth.
We don’t mean to imply that having straight teeth automatically means your mouth is healthier. Instead, having straight teeth makes it easier to keep your mouth healthy .
You still need to do those things that are recommended by dental professionals. Brush your teeth twice daily. Floss every day. Get professional cleanings and exams a couple times each year.
Straight, evenly-spaced teeth can be cleaned more effectively than teeth that are out of alignment.
Let’s take someone who has crowded teeth. That person may be diligent about brushing and flossing, but if some of their teeth are too close together, they may not be able to clean between them. Since it is much more difficult to remove bacteria from those spaces, they are more likely to have plaque buildup, which increases their risk of cavities and gum disease.
Similarly, a patient with crooked teeth that overlap one another may have parts of their mouth that can’t be cleaned completely by brushing their teeth. This too can raise the risk of tooth decay.
Bite issues can be equally problematic, but for a different reason. If you have an overbite or underbite, for example, the way your teeth fit together can cause greater wear on your enamel. This can expose softer parts of those teeth, increasing tooth sensitivity. This also can weaken teeth over time, making it more difficult to bite and chew certain foods.
If you are having any of those issues, you can work with us to correct your alignment so you can clean your teeth more effectively and avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
Different Ways to Straighten Your Smile
People have been straightening their teeth for thousands of years, using a variety of methods and tools. Modern dental patients have benefited tremendously from centuries inventions and innovations.
That’s why today, you have access to the best and most effective services developed. It’s also why more and more adults are taking steps to correct their smiles. The FDA has reported that an estimated 1 in 5 people wearing braces today is 21 or older.
Here are your options at Hillstream Dental.
Traditional metal braces are likely to remain a common treatment option for a long, long time because they work. It’s that simple. If you want straight teeth, metal braces can make that happen.
Braces have been used for decades. The materials used to create modern braces, including the wires, have improved tremendously. You’ll still feel some pressure, but that’s how you’ll know your teeth are moving in the right directions.
For patients who may feel self-conscious about wearing metal on their teeth, ceramic braces are another great option. While not exactly invisible, they are quite discreet, which helps many people feel more relaxed about wearing them.
Ceramic braces can be used to correct the same issues as metal braces, but they are less noticeable.
One final option is great for patients with mild to moderate issues and who want to be as discreet as possible. ClearCorrect does away with brackets and wires. Instead, you could have a custom-designed set of transparent, plastic aligners.
You wear each aligner for a few weeks, then replace it with the next one in your personal series. Many patients are surprised by how few people realize they are wearing anything on their teeth.
By wearing your aligners as directed, you can create the straight smile of your dreams without calling attention to what you are doing.
