Zoom! Your Way A Whiter Smile
If you have ever looked at your teeth in the mirror, you may have wished your teeth were a little whiter.
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular services available in cosmetic dentistry. It’s also why so many products in the toothpaste aisle claim that they can whiten your smile.
Unfortunately, not every whitening product is made the same. If you really want whiter teeth, you need to go to a dentist office. If you live in or near Rochester Hills, MI, then Hubbard & Leath Dental can offer you professional teeth whitening.
Why Your Teeth Are Stained
Teeth become stained because of the things that we put in our mouths.
Almost anything that you eat or drink can cause stains. Think about it this way, if something can stain your glass or your plate, then it can stain your teeth, too.
Now, it’s also true that some things are more likely to cause stains than others.
Aside from tobacco, some of the most common stain-causing agents are things many of us drink every day and, in many cases, multiple times throughout the day. Coffee, soft drinks, and tea are all big contributors to the stains we see on our patients’ teeth.
Wine, in limited portions, may have some health benefits, but it can also stain your teeth. Even things we consider healthy snacks — such as blueberries, strawberries, and tomatoes — can stain our teeth.
It only makes sense that as we get older, our teeth are more likely to become stained. After all, you have consumed a lot more food in your lifetime by the time you are 40 compared to when you were 20.
You can take step to slow down the staining process. Rinsing your mouth with water can remove some stain-causing particles left in your mouth after a meal. Brushing your teeth as soon as you are able following a meal is good for your teeth, too. Drinking with a straw can minimize the contact between your drinks and your teeth.
And going to the dentist for routine cleanings also will help.
At the grocery store, you can buy a wide range of whitening products — toothpastes, white strips, gels and trays, and mouthrinses.
Of course, this is also where you can buy coffee, soft drinks, tea, candy, tomato sauce, and any number of things that cause your teeth to become stained.
How well do those commercial whitening products really work?
According to webmd.com, whitening gels and strips are your best bet. You may notice some results in a few days, but it can take weeks of using those products consistently before your teeth are as white as you would like them to be.
One of the risks of using products for a long time is that they can wear down the protective enamel on your teeth, which could be counter-productive for what you are trying to do.
Whitening toothpastes are less effective than the gels and strips, and mouthrinses can take up to 12 weeks (three months) of daily use before you notice any change.
In the meantime, you will probably be eating and drinking things that could create new stains.
Results You Can See Faster
At Hubbard & Leath Dental, we use Zoom! Whitening products for our patients who want whiter teeth and a whiter smile.
Zoom! is similar to some of the over-the-counter products in one respect. Many of them use a similar active ingredient.
The difference is the concentration of that ingredient. Zoom! contains 25 percent hydrogen peroxide gel. That’s why it’s only available at dentists’ offices.
With our in-office treatment, you will see a noticeable improvement in one visit to our office. This treatment lasts about 90 minutes.
During your visit, you will have three 15-minute sessions. We will apply the gel to your teeth and expose it to a light that activates the gel.
If you are more of a do-it-yourself person, we also offer a take-home version of Zoom! Again, this is more powerful that the products you will find at the grocery store, which means you should see better results in less time as long as you use it as directed.
